Words Not To Use In a Press Release

This article had me chuckling because I know I’ve had a few clients come back to me after reading a press release I’ve just written and they’ve asked me to add a few ‘flashy’ words. Some of those so-called ‘flashy’ words are on this list, “10 words often misused in a press release“.

To write an awesome press release, you’ve got to see it through the reporter’s eyes. And all they want is the meat and potatoes — imagine they are saying ‘so what?’ as they read your release.

To avoid having eyes rolling as a reporter reads your release or having the main content lost to any reader, keep these ’10 often misused words’ top of mind.

Ridiculous Job Titles

Sam Fiorella posted a hilarious article on PR Daily touching on a recent phenom with job titles in the social media field that begs the question, ‘what do you really do?’. The job title should give it away, but lately there’s this emergence of titles that honestly have me shaking my head. Yes, social media is a new frontier for many legacy companies so categorizing these new hires may require a bit of creativity but lets keep it professional.

Below is Sam’s list of 12 worst titles. Let me know if you’ve come across any of these or have any funny ones that beat them. My fav has to be 3 and 4.
